latest update 2 August 2009

Proud founders of the
(FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE BALCKWATCH BILLFISH TOURNAMENT)
The
first four of these tournaments were highly successfull and much fun was had by all. From 2007 the prize structure was changed to give traditional ski-boaters a guaranteed chance to win one of the two main prizes.
In 2005, 12 marlin and 4 sailfish were released by the 40 odd boats that entered. (The winners went to Australia)
In 2006 the results were even more impressive - with 34 releases from 46 boats despite bad weather. (The winners went to Ghana)
In 2007 14 fish were released and many, many more strikes "duffed" (The TWO winning teams went to Kilwa Tanzania)
In 2008 55 boats, including a few international teams entered and experienced 3 days of unforgettable fishing. A total of 43 Billfish were released, with equally that many fish lost. Several teams trying to enter late had to be turned away! (The TWO winning teams leave for Hemmingways in Kenia later this year)
In 2009 SADSAA ran the event for the first time, with resounding success and an entry of about 90 boats.
In view of the ever increasing popularity of this event early entry becomes imperative.
Purpose: The purpose of the event is to:
Enhance the public opinion of marlin fishing as a sport, by increasing their awareness of our commitment to conservation and sensible exploitation of our resource
Promote the interests of marlin fishermen in general
Promote the tourism potential of Richards Bay as an important Marlin Fishery, holiday destination and Industrial centre
Last, but not the least, to create a fun event where serious Marlin Anglers can meet, mingle, share knowledge about the sport and simply have FUN
